The Southwest Local School District provides
education services to more than 4,000 students in Hamilton
County, Ohio, through six elementary schools, one junior
high and one high school. To provide these services, the
district must have many of the same resources that other
businesses use to produce goods and services: land, labor,
and capitol resources.
The district is located in the Harrison area
and is committed to providing the highest quality education
for all its students and to continually meeting the needs
of its community. As a business, the school district's goal
is to produce responsible citizens who recognize the rights
and contributions of others; communicate effectively and
creatively; and become independent, lifelong learners.
The Southwest Local School District receives
51% of its funding from the state of Ohio, 46% from local
taxes and 3% from federal programs. The district spends
$5,850 per student, per year; the state per pupil average
is $7,057.
The U.S. Department of Education has recognized
six of the schools in the district for their excellence
in education.
