Video 2 - Markets & Prices
Ohio Farm Bureau,
the Ohio corn industry
Corn is Ohio's second most valuable agricultural
crop. It accounts for about 17% of the value of Ohio's annual
agricultural output - just behind soybeans and just ahead
of dairy products. Ohio is the nation's sixth largest corn-producing
state, providing approximately 5% of the total U.S. crop.
In all, more than 3 million acres of corn are grown and
harvested in the state each year. That translates to 485
million bushels of corn worth nearly $900 million - a lot
of corn in anyone's book!
This video looks at the production of
corn cereal from the farm to the table and every step in
between. Consumer demand for a box of corn cereal sends
a signal to the grocery store, which in turn alerts the
cereal producer, who notifies the grain buyer who indicates
to the farmer who tends the field, plants and harvests the
corn crop.
