Factors of Production (Southwest Local School District)

Lesson 1

Now that you have learned about the production of a pencil, sharpen your skills with a visit to Pencil Pages the world's most comprehensive online resource for pencil-related information.

The most famous essay, "I, Pencil" by Leonard E. Read (1898-1983) is published on several sites on the web. We used the "Freeman" website because this was where Read first published this famous essay in the December 1958 issue. Read founded FEE (Foundation for Economic Education) in 1946 and served as its president until his death. The FEE website also has the essay on its Ideas on Liberty webpage.

The Pencil Pages offers more on pencils, including history and pencil trivia, from the Incense Cedar Institute.

From a small carpenter's workshop, founded by Kasper Faber in 1761 to a major international corporation, Faber-Castell has all kinds of company information. Click on the company name and then history to find an illustrated history of the pencil, and, soon, illustrations of pencil production.
